During the Raw Materials Summit 2026 in Brussels, the CRM Facility hosted a dedicated session focusing on the role of African rare earths projects in strengthening Europe’s resilient and diversified supply chains for critical raw materials.
The session explored how strategic projects such as Frontier Rare Earths and Mkango Resources could help address key supply chain gaps for rare earth elements (REEs), which are essential for sectors including clean energy technologies, electric mobility, defence and advanced manufacturing. Discussions connected upstream mining developments in Africa with Europe’s growing mid- and downstream industrial demand, while also examining broader questions of supply security, industrial resilience and long-term strategic partnerships.
Speakers from the European Commission, the CRM -Facility and industry provided insights into Europe’s REE value chain challenges, project positioning and investment requirements. A moderated discussion further explored how advanced African REE projects can contribute to building more secure and sustainable supply chains for Europe, while creating mutually beneficial opportunities for industrial cooperation and investment.
